When feeling confused consider the following steps and dua :

Bismi-llāhi-r-Raḥmāni-r-Raḥīm. Alḥamdu-lillāhi Rabbi-l-ʿālamīn, ar-Raḥmāni-r-Raḥīm, Māliki yawmi-d-dīn, iyyāka naʿbudu wa iyyāka nastaʿīn, ihdina-ṣ-Ṣirāṭa-l-Mustaqīm, ṣirāṭa-lladhīna anʿamta ʿalayhim ghayri-l-maghḍūbi ʿālayhim wa la-ḍ-ḍāllīn.
“In the name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Very Merciful. All praises and thanks are for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds, The All-Merciful, The Very Merciful, Master of the Day of Judgement. You Alone we worship, You Alone we ask for help. Guide us on the Straight Path, the path of those whom You have favoured, not of those who incur (Your) anger nor of those who have gone astray. (1:1-7)”

Rabbi innī limā anzalta illayya min khayrin faqīr.
“My Lord, truly I am in dire need of any good which You may send me. (28:24)”

Allāhumma aḥsin ʿāqibatanā fi-l-umūri kullihā, wa ajirnā min khizyi-d-dunyā wa ʿadhābi-l-ākhirah.
“O Allah, grant us the best outcome in all of our affairs, and protect us from the humiliation of this world and the punishment of the hereafter.”
Busr b. Abī Artāt (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicate with [the above]. (Aḥmad 17628)

Allāhumma-hdinī wa saddidnī, Allāhumma innī as’aluka-l-hudā wa-s-sadād.
“O Allah, guide me and grant me firmness. O Allah, I beg You for guidance and firmness (on the straight path).”
Hazrat E Ali (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: “Say: [the above], and when you make a mention of guidance, keep in mind the (Straight) Path. And when you consider the Straight (Path), keep in mind the straightness of the arrow.” (Muslim 2725)
- Seek Guidance through Prayer (Salah): Engage in prayer and seek guidance from Allah. During your prostration (sujood), ask for clarity and wisdom.
- Consult the Quran: Turn to the Quran for guidance. Reflect on relevant verses that may provide insight into your situation.
- Make Istikhara: Perform the Istikhara prayer, seeking Allah’s guidance in making decisions. Trust that Allah will guide you towards what is best.
- Seek Advice from Knowledgeable Individuals: Consult knowledgeable and pious individuals, such as scholars or wise elders, who can provide guidance based on Islamic teachings.
- Reflect on Prophetic Guidance: Consider how the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) dealt with uncertainty and seek inspiration from his life and teachings.
- Practice Patience and Tawakkul (Reliance on Allah): Be patient during times of confusion, and trust in Allah’s plan. Place your reliance on Him and acknowledge that He is the Best of Planners.
- Make Dua (Supplication): Ask Allah for clarity, wisdom, and guidance. Pour your heart out in sincere supplication, expressing your confusion and seeking His help.
- Take Practical Steps: While relying on Allah, take practical steps to gather information or seek advice that can help in making an informed decision.
Remember that confusion is a natural part of life, and turning to Allah in times of uncertainty is a recommended practice in Islam. Through prayer, seeking knowledge, and relying on Allah, you can find guidance and peace of mind.
