If you’re feeling bored or restless, you can turn to supplication and seek guidance from Allah. Here’s a simple dua (prayer) that you can recite one of them also you engaged in activities that are not only permissible but also beneficial for your well-being.

Rabbi innī limā anzalta illayya min khayrin faqīr.
“My Lord, truly I am in dire need of any good which You may send me. (28:24)”

Allāhumma innā nas’aluka mūjibāti raḥmatik, wa ʿazā’ima maghfiratik, wa-s-salāmata min kulli ithm, wal-ghanīmata min kulli birr, wal-fawza bil-Jannah, wa-n-najāta mina-n-nār.
““O Allah, we implore You for everything that will lead to Your mercy and the resolve to engage in actions deserving Your forgiveness. Grant us protection from every sin and success in every righteous deed. Bestow upon us entry into Paradise and shield us from the torment of Hell-fire.”
Abdullah b. Mas’ūd (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) says: “From the supplication of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was: [the above]. (Hākim 1/525)

Allāhumma Muṣarrifa-l-qulūbi ṣarrif qulūbanā ʿalā ṭāʿatik.
“O Allah, Changer of hearts, direct our hearts to Your obedience.”
ʿAbdullah bin Amr (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhum) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Verily, the hearts of the children of Adam, all of them, are between the two fingers of the Merciful as one heart. He directs them wherever He wills.” (Sahih Muslim 2654)

Allāhumma aʿinnī ʿalā dhikrika wa shukrika wa ḥusni ʿibādatik.
“O Allah, help me in remembering You, in being grateful to You, and in worshipping You in an excellent manner.”
Mu’adh bin Jabal (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took him by the hand and said, “O Mu’adh, I swear by Allah that I love you. I swear by Allah that I love you. O Mu’adh, I advise you not to forget supplicating after every prayer by saying: [the above]. (Abu Dawood 1522)”

Allāhumma alhimnī rushdī, wa aʿidhnī min sharri nafsī.
“O Allah, inspire me with sound guidance and protect me from the evil of my self.”
ʿImran bin Husayn (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrated: “The Prophet ﷺ said to my father: ‘O Husayn, how many deities do you worship now?‘ He said: ‘Seven. Six in the earth, and one above the heavens.’ He ﷺ said: ‘So which of them do you take for your ardent requests and fears?’ He said: ‘The one above the heavens.’ He ﷺ said: ‘O Husayn, if you accept Islam, I would teach you two phrases that would benefit you.’” He (the narrator) said: “So when Husayn accepted Islam, he said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, teach me the two phrases you promised me.’ So he ﷺ said: [the above].” (Tirmidhi 3483)
Activities that are not only permissible but also beneficial
- Engage in Acts of Worship: Use your free time to perform acts of worship, such as extra prayers (nafl), reading Quran, or making dhikr (remembrance of Allah) when Bored.
- Seek Knowledge: Spend time reading Islamic books, learning more about your faith, or watching educational Islamic videos. Knowledge-seeking is highly valued in Islam.
- Help Others: Engaging in acts of kindness and helping others is a virtuous deed. Look for opportunities to assist family, neighbors, or the community.
- Reflect and Repent: Take some quiet time to reflect on your actions and seek forgiveness for any shortcomings. Engage in repentance and resolve to improve yourself.
- Dua (Supplication): Make dua to Allah, asking for guidance, contentment, and the strength to utilize your time wisely.
- Learn a Beneficial Skill: Use your time to acquire a skill that can benefit you and others. This could include learning a new language, a useful craft, or any skill that aligns with Islamic values.
- Physical Exercise: Engage in physical activities such as walking, jogging, or other forms of exercise to keep your body healthy. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encouraged physical well-being.
- Connect with Family: Spend quality time with your family, strengthening the bonds of kinship, and fostering a positive and supportive environment.
- Explore Nature: Contemplate the beauty of Allah’s creation by spending time outdoors, enjoying the natural world.
- Plan for the Future: Set constructive goals for yourself and make plans for personal and spiritual development. Use your time to work towards these goals.
