expressing gratitude to Allah is a cornerstone of faith. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, in his wisdom, provided us with a beautiful dua to express our thankfulness for feeling Grateful.

Allāhumma mā aṣbaḥa bī min niʿmatin aw bi-aḥadim-min khalqik, fa-minka waḥdaka lā sharīka lak, fa laka-l-ḥamdu wa laka-sh-shukr.
O Allah, all the favours that I or anyone from Your creation has received in the morning, are from You Alone. You have no partner. To You Alone belong all praise and all thanks.
ʿAbdullāh b. Ghannām (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever says [the above] in the morning has fulfilled his obligation to thank Allah for that day. And whoever says it in the evening has fulfilled his obligation for that night.” (Abū Dāwūd 5073)

Al-ḥamdu li-llāhi-l-ladhī aṭʿamanā wa saqānā, wa kafānā, wa āwānā, fakam-mim-man lā kāfīya lahū walā mu’wiy.
All praise is for Allah, Who provided us food and drink and Who sufficed us and has sheltered us; for how many have none to suffice them or shelter them.
Anas (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would retire to bed, he would say [the above]. (Muslim 2715)

Rabbi awziʿnī an ashkura niʿmataka-l-latī anʿamta ʿalayya wa ʿalā wālidayya wa an aʿmala ṣāliḥan tarḍāh, wa adhkilnī bi-raḥmatika fī ʿibādika-ṣ-ṣāliḥīn.
My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favour which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do good deeds that please You. And admit me by Your mercy amongst Your righteous servants. (27:19)

Rabbi awziʿnī an ashkura niʿmataka-l-latī anʿamta ʿalayya wa ʿalā wālidayya wa an aʿmala ṣāliḥan tarḍāh, wa aṣliḥ lī fī dhuriyyatī, innī tubtu ilayka wa innī mina-l-muslimīn.
“O my Lord, grant me the ability to express gratitude for the blessings You have bestowed upon me and my parents. Help me engage in righteous deeds that bring You pleasure. Bless my descendants with righteousness. I sincerely repent to You, and indeed, I am among those who submit to Your will.” (46:15)
- Express Thanks to Allah: Verbalize your gratitude to Allah through phrases like “Alhamdulillah” (All praise is due to Allah) and sincere dua (supplication).
- Perform Extra Acts of Worship: Engage in voluntary prayers, make additional supplications, and increase acts of worship to show appreciation for Allah’s blessings.
- Charity and Helping Others: Share your blessings with those in need. Acts of charity and kindness reflect gratitude and compassion, aligning with Islamic teachings.
- Remember Allah in all Circumstances: Cultivate a habit of remembering and praising Allah in various situations, not just during challenging times.
- Recite Relevant Duas: Recite specific duas of gratitude mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah to acknowledge and thank Allah for His favors.
- Use Blessings for Good: Utilize the blessings bestowed upon you for righteous purposes and to benefit others.
- Reflect on Blessings: Take moments to reflect on the numerous blessings in your life, recognizing them as gifts from Allah.
- Maintain a Grateful Attitude: Foster a positive and grateful attitude in daily life, acknowledging Allah’s continuous blessings.
- Express Gratitude to Others: Thank and express gratitude to people who have been a source of support and kindness in your life.
- Pray for Continual Gratitude: Ask Allah to grant you the ability to remain grateful continually and to increase your appreciation for His blessings.
Gratitude in Islam is not just a fleeting emotion but a continuous state of mindfulness and acknowledgment of Allah’s mercy and generosity. Regularly expressing thanks and incorporating gratitude into your actions strengthens your connection with Allah and deepens your sense of appreciation for the countless blessings in your life.
